Forget about
Alice in Wonderland. Zimbabwe has its own Wonderland in Alyce!
Saturday, March 22
In one of the most remarkable feats, New York branch chairperson,
Alyce Murambiwa, on Saturday managed, in a matter of minutes, to
not only raise over $1,000 from her members but brought the branch
to the doorstep of a full and substantive branch status after she
enrolled 18 people.
Members had listened to, and had been moved by, her impassioned
speech about the obligations of the Zimbabweans in Diaspora to help
the liberation struggle in Zimbabwe.
Murambiwa said the money would be sent to the MDC to help members
who will be protecting the votes from being stolen by Robert
Mugabe’s regime.
And that contribution paid off. MDC won both the parliamentary an
presidential elections hands down! Problem is Mugabe is refusing to
step down.
On February 22 in Washington, DC, Murambiwa was able to sell all the
ten MDC DVDs in a matter of minutes – something that had taken
someone else several weeks to try to accomplish.
Murambiwa said the New York branch was going to be known by its
deeds. The branch was committed to playing its role in the struggle
for the liberation of Zimbabwe. She said Zimbabweans were looking to
the Diasporians to help and said the branch membership should not
let them down. She said fellow Zimbabweans was the driving force
behind her activism.
The tall fashion- conscious debutante Murambiwa was praised by
members for her dynamic leadership and resolute character.
Messages of goodwill came from the chairmen of the Philadelphia and
Columbus-Ohio branches, Nick Mada and Zvidzai Ruzvidzo. They were
conveyed by Stan Mukasa.
To launch the New York branch members celebrated with an all -night
party. Food and drinks were served as members danced all night.
Addressing the newly enrolled members Murambiwa said each member had
a duty to play and she expected all members to play their assigned
roles.
Speaking with great passion and at one time on the brink of crying
Murambiwa talked about the trials and tribulations faced by
Zimbabweans under Mugabe. She and her mother physically experienced
the force of Mugabe’s oppression.
